What Is Chiropractic Care?
We're glad you asked! Chiropractic care is a drug-free, non-surgical approach to healing and wellness. Chiropractic care restores health and prevents injury by improving the structural integrity of the body, both joint and soft tissue structures. What this means, in simple terms, is that most pain comes from tension. Tension, in turn, comes from stress-whether its physical, mental/emotional, or chemical/nutritional (most people have all three!). The chiropractic definition of stress is change. Since the only constant in life is change, we are consistantly living in a stressed environment Stress isn't good or bad, it's just part of our life experience. The trick is to manage it as best as one is able, through diet, exercise, and attitude. When tension does accumulate (and its not a matter of if,but rather when and how much), it is best to download it thru some form of bodywork. With the reduction of tension and the introduction of flexibility, pain is reduced or eliminated. Physical symtoms requires physical medicine, such as the procedures employed by chiropractic. Nothing else can get to the cause of pain.
Addressing the Root of the Problem
All symtoms are just information-the way the body 'informs' one of imbalance. Pain is nothing more than a language the intelligence of the body uses. Inherit, in that message, is the solution to the problem. When your mechanic hooks your car to his/her computer, the readout isn't suppressed or covered up. A good mechanic understands the feed-back from the car, and ultizes that information to fix it. The body is no different, although infinitely more intelligent (we invented the computer that the mechanic uses!). So the greater the understanding of the various languages, the body employs, the better results one can achieve. Chiropractic knows the body is intelligent and can comunicate the problem thru the expression of symtoms. Our job ,as chiropractors, is to decipher that information. For example, often pain is just the bodies way of saying its accumulated too much tension. Other times that language could be saying you need more minerals, or rest, or numerous other possibilities that make each of us indivduals.
Many people don't realize that there are dozens of chiropractic techniques to choose from. Our office ultizes about 12 of these approaches. This is because different people require various methods to achieve sucess in eliminating acute or chronic pain. For example, about a third of our clients prefer non-traditional procedures. In these cases, we use various instruments to create movement in the involved joint complexes (proprioceptive tools that stimulate relaxation & flexibility). Also, various injuries require different strategies for different musculoskeletal structures-one for joint movement, one for soft tissue mobilization, and another for rehabilition therapy. Chiropractic recognizes the connection between structure and function (as coordinated by the nervous system), and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of your health. Modern chiropractic recognizes that both joint and soft tissue(muscle, ligament, fascia, and tendon) structures come into play, when working with pain resolution. We also understand we have to work on the entire body- the spine and sometimes, the extremities, to restore balance.
